Trans 2010

BASE Opening Party

HYDROPONIC HI-FI

‘Top Ranking Reggae’

Following a series of storming appearances across Northern Ireland in recent years, Belfast based Reggae crew Hydroponic Hi-Fi make a triumphant return to Trans 2010 for what promises to be a night of crucial Reggae cuts!

In a relatively short space of time, Hydroponic Hi-Fi has rocked stages across Ireland, with support slots for the likes of Gilles Peterson, Trojan Records, A Guy Called Gerald, Asian Dub Foundation, Blood & Fire Sound System and Afrikaa Bambaataa.

Headline appearances at venues such as The Empire, Crescent Arts Centre and Queen’s University have come thick and fast, while recent dances in Derry, Carlow and Inishfree have cemented their reputation on a broader scale.

Drawing inspiration from the classic Jamaican Sound System setup, Selector Michael McKeown and long standing vocalist MC Krow join forces with percussionist Ganesh Kumbla and Deejay Angus Daye to present a bass heavy shakedown of Jamaican dubs, classics and re-edits.

This is the opening party for ‘Base’ – the international street art and music festival which showcases some of the finest underground street artists working in Europe today. The Hi-Fi boys promise a rollercoaster soundclash through a broad spectrum of Jamaican sounds – from dub to dancehall and roots via rocksteady – with a sprinkling of ska for good measure. Think Yellowman, Prince Buster, The Upsetters, Buju Banton and the Skatalites – dusted down and reignited within the inimitable Hydroponic Hi-Fi style.

So get your dancing shoes ready and get ready for an evening of non stop skanking…..
